Life is messy, imperfect, cluttered, name it all. Life sucks.
There are many responsibilities, tasks, works, obligations,
whatever terms describes it. We even hate it, admit that.
It overwhelms us. It makes us procrastinate.
It makes us lazy. It makes us stress.
It makes us messier and messier.
But a lot of productivity system has been strolling in the
internet. But then again, supposedly, it should solve the problem. Turns out,
it overwhelms a lot more than what we’ve expected.
Chaos. Huh.
So, because all of what I am saying is representing who I am.
Therefore, I created this guide so that whenever I am cluttered, messy and
overwhelmed, I have this guide to help me become organize and a productive human
being existing on earth.
And maybe, it can help you too.
Find a place. A comfortable place that you can completely wandered
your mind. In short, no distractions.
Then figure out the problem.
Why do you want to organize your
life?
Are you overwhelmed with tasks?
Are you overwhelmed with what productivity system to use?
Are you procrastinating?
Is this your first time organizing your life?
Are you even interested to organize your life?
Because for me, the answer is not knowing where to start and
I don’t have the discipline to be consistent.
Sometimes, problems are restraining us to start organizing
and because we did not organize, we start overwhelming, and because we are
overwhelmed, we start to question ourselves and as a result, we procrastinate.
If you figure out the problem. Would you write it down?
STEP 2: CATEGORIZE YOUR LIFE
Categorizing your life is helpful. It gives insights to what
is your priorities in life.
Some of which are personal, school, health, home, finances,
and many other things depending on you.
This is what I have.
·
Learning
·
Self
·
Personal
·
Creativity
· Productivity
STEP 3: BRAINDUMP EVERYTHING AND CATEGORIZE
Write what you have in head. To do’s, thoughts, ideas, or whatever
it is.
Then put it based on the category you have written a while
ago (if you even make one).
Now that you have let it out, start to put it into action. We are going to reset our life. Yay!
STEP 4: A TIMELINE FOR RESETTING
WEEK 1: Organize your Physical Space
- .
Declutter
anything in your desk, closet, your room if you have one. Declutter the space
you think you need to declutter. Remember this is all about yourself, so you
don’t need to clean the whole house unless you own it.
- Rearrange things if there’s a need to. Sometimes, rearranging things can sometimes feel like your starting a new chapter.
- Remember your theme, or decide a theme. Do you want to be minimal? Colorful? A one-color set up?
- You can buy some organization drawers and trays (only if you need to).
- Organize everything you need to clean up your space. After all, I don’t know what areas it is, but make a list of what you need to organize.
WEEK 2: Organize your Digital Space
- Arrange
laptop/computer files.
- Unsubscribe
from those subscriptions you have in your emails.
- Clean
Phone/Laptop/Computer storage.
- Phone
makeover [change wallpaper, rearrange app icon, etc.]
- Unfollow
people from social media who gives you headache. Use social media to see
information that inspires you rather than destruct you.
- Delete
apps that distracts you. (Yes, you need to do that!)
- Delete unnecessary photos, videos, documents and notes. Back it up after.
WEEK 3: Organize your System
- Decide your system.
·
How
do you plan your days? Weeks? Months?
·
Are
you more like a digital planner person? Or prefer to use paper in planning?
·
Do
you use or want to use binder notebook? A Bullet journal? A printable planner?
·
Or
do you prefer to use Notion, Google Calendar, Keep Notes, Trello, or other digital stuffs?
Finding a system that works for you is a trial-and-error process. That is, it takes time finding the right one.
2. If you are still undecided. You can follow what’s mine. For now.
The first on my list is Notion. If you are not yet
familiar with notion, this is an app where you can customize everything
according to your needs. I use notion to categorize my life.
So as mentioned a while ago, these are my categories:
·
Learning
This
is where I want to put all the information’s I have learned, new things, and new
discoveries.
·
Self
This
is where I focus on self-care. I put my skin care products, dress boards,
self-goals, and even journals.
·
Personal
This
is where I put my finances, readings, goals, bucket list, and even recipes.
·
Creativity
This
is the space that I have for my writing ideas.
·
Productivity
This is where
I put my reset routines, morning and
night routines, cleaning routines, etc.
Second on my list is Bullet Journal. This is where I
put my tasks, daily and weekly planning.
Third on my list is a Wall Calendar. This is a game-changer
thing since I am more like a visual type of person. I used wall calendar to have a visual representation
of what date it is, and what due tasks are in.
Lastly, my Google Calendar where I scheduled my personal events, school deadlines, and some advance planning I have in mind, which sometimes I did not even follow. Nay.
WEEK 4: Time for your category
It’s time to organize and plan things that you have under
your categories. You also need to make sure you have a place to put for all of
this.
If you have categories for school, make sure you have the
place to put all of your school stuffs.
If you have health category, you need to assure that you have
a place for workouts and healthy foods to eat.
If you are not digitally inclined, if you cannot use Notion for this as how I am using it, you can store it in a regular notebook. One notebook for each category that you have decided. After all, it's all on you.
STEP 5: LIVE YOUR LIFE
Don’t forget to enjoy. Organizing your life should not be stressful. Remember, all of these are all guide for you to be organized, you can take what works and leave what doesn’t.
Have a good day ahead!
